Sea turtle - final project
Sea turtle - animal head project - final questions
For my animal head project, I decided to create a sea turtle. I wanted to create the illusion that the sea turtle was swimming out of whatever surface it was on. I started with looking at many reference images of sea turtles and sketching. While I made my sea turtle from sketching, to sculpting, to painting, I was always looking at reference images. This helped a lot when it came to the proportions of the head compared to the body. The head has lots of details with the face having added and subtracted clay to created the details. I also had to use lots of previous knowledge I learned from other pieces to know what tools to use to create the textures. This piece makes me really happy because it is my first piece I am truly proud of. I think this piece is a perfect representation on how much technique and skill I have gained from taking this sculpture class. This piece feels like a huge success for me and came out exactly how I envisioned it.

wearable art and jewelry making - final questions
For my wearable art, I decided to make a pear and star collection. I made earrings and each are different but match with a ring and bracelet. I really like how each separate piece is different and you can wear the separate or together. They are simple and minimalistic but still have an overall design. This collection can be dressed up or keep it casual which I love. I feel like my collection was super successful because all of the pieces match but still have there own special touch to them.

Abstract and non-objective wood sculpture
ABSTRACT AND NON-OBJECTIVE WOOD SCULPTURE- Final questions
I would describe my piece as a different design from every angle. Everything came together with the colors and overall design. I created a flower with a sun in the center when you look at it head on but looks like something completely different from the sides. This piece came out exactly how I wanted. It gives the exactly illusion I was hoping for. I feel like my piece was successful and I love how the colors and vibe came together.

Final altered book
Altered book final questions
I would describe my piece as a trip through Peru. I wanted to show all my favorite parts and highlights from my trip to Peru. I cut into the book as a look into how it was. I made the Amazon river a focal point with the texture to make it stand out. Everything comes together with the element of add a subtract. I cut pictures into the book and then made Peru 3D. The piece gives me the feeling I intended because it shows how beautiful Peru is. This piece say that traveling and seeing the world is a beautiful thing. I think my piece was very successful in capturing Peru's beautiful and unique elements and the cultures life.

Final sgraffito pot
Final sgraffito pot questions
I would describe my piece as a unique way to design. The pot is full of cute little simply designed to flow together. Instead of adding to the pot to create designs, I am carving way at it. The element of art comes together because they flow together and have the same textures. They have different values to help create dimension. This piece gives me the feeling I intended because I love how all the designs are corresponded to summer and happiness. I am proud of how this piece came out because this is my first time glacing before designing and I think it came out as a success.

How is he able to keep his books in interesting positions? What do you think of his work?
He focuses on the texture and images in his books and carves around anything he finds interesting. He thinks of his work as a remix of the original book. He uses lots of interesting materials like ropes to create his final work. I like how he doesn't move any images in the book (it's exactly where it was in the original book) but he carves around them to make them stand out.

music inspired slab - song- Heat waves final
Music inspired slab- final questions
I describe my piece to someone by having them listen to the song Heat Waves by Glass Animals. The song gives off a cool vibe and wanted my piece to show that. The piece represents how the song makes me feel with the colors, textures, patterns and shapes. Its unique and somehow all the different features flow together just like the song. All the elements came together because of how I distributed them. I would make one part 3D but then balance it out buy carving in next to it. I always had the colors flow into the other elements space to make it cohesive. This piece definitely gives the feeling I intended and I think it represent the song very well. I made this piece say summer, happiness, carefree, and fun. This song reminds me of summer and that's what I really wanted my piece to show.

Final snail rattle
About my snail pinch pot rattle piece
I would describe my piece as a happy reminder. I wanted my rattle to make people smile when they saw it. While working on my piece I found my proportions to be successful. I was able to create all the details I wanted with the space I would leave. I am really happy with how the shell turned out and think it looks more realistic with the indents. If I were to do this piece again I think I would have planned more ahead on how I was going to do the face details. I was able to add as much details as I wanted but wish I would of had more of an idea of what I wanted to do before starting. Overall, I am really happy with how my snail turned out and it's super cute.

about me:
My name is Erin Orlowski and I am in the 11th grade. In this art class I am excited to learn all the techniques used in sculpting. I am excited to make many different sculptures. Over last semester I have improved and become pretty good at drawing. I took the drawing art class and it really helped me learn and improve as an artist. On my free time I really enjoy running and working out. I also have been getting into cooking recently. I have been trying out so many different recipes and styles. I love to be creative and being proud of my work.
